“What is so wrong with Halloween?”

You cannot drink the cup of the Lord and the cup of demons. You cannot partake of the table of the Lord and the table of demons.” 1Corinthians 10:21

Introduction:  Two men walking through a cemetery late at night….

The History of Halloween.

Samhain-Celtic New Year Day honoring “Lord of Death.” Souls of the dead come alive and come to their homes. Bone-fires of animals, humans. Pagan rites. Christianized to “All Saints/Souls” Day. House to house gathering of foodstuffs. Costumes of saints.

Should we participate?

It is a pagan holiday- Christmas, Easter were also borrowed from base, pagan, earth religions. But what is Halloween’s theme?

Candy, ghouls, goblins, vampires, zombies?

[Deut. 18:20; Lev.19:31; 20:6; 2Chron.33:6; Dan. 2:27f; Gal.5:20f; Acts 8:9; 19:17f.]

Is Halloween is Harmless?

Does it glorify evil? Does it glorify greed? Does it make evil ideas entertainment? Fear, fright, death…are these good things?

[Eph.5:11; 1Cor.10:21; 1Pt.5:8; Josh.24:15; Ps.27:1f.]

A Christian Halloween?

Dress up like a Biblical personage? Give your candy to an agency? In your family prayers remember to pray against evil inclinations. Visit the cemetery and remember your loved ones who died in the faith. Say to evil-looking TorT they’re ugly.

 Conclusion: Yet..who’s wearing a mask?

Reflection Question…..

How would the world be if ghosts were real, zombies existed, God was helpless?
